Hi, I have a 320d 2007 Tourer, been getting a droning sound for a couple of weeks that appears to be coming from rear centre of the car.

The noise kicks in at 40+ mph.

Had it checked at a garage today and been told it is the diff that is making the noise and it sounds an expensive fix, certainly for a new one.

Spoke to a diff reconditioning specialist and they mentioned not all BMW diff parts are easy to come by to use in reconditioning. Hopefully that's not the case though.

Anyone aware of a BMW recon specialist in East Midlands?

    Thanks, Mark.

I had the diff implode on the 2003 320d. Found the same problem, BMW wanted the best part of £2k for parts and labour. Recon guys were non-committal, either couldn't or wouldn't do the job.

I wound up getting a used one off a low mileage (matching car) front end write off from a breaker. Oil change before it was fitted by a local garage and all has been well since.

    Thanks Mike.

Sounds like the best option weighing up the cost of a new diff. Having said that, would you mind sharing how much the part cost you?

    Thanks, Mark

From memory, it was about £300 by the time i got it fitted. but the parts do now look to be significantly cheaper.

on FAB, the Diff for mine would now be £80..

    Thanks again, Mike.
Got one from FAB, similar cost, around the £300 all fitted.

    Cheers
